Childrens’ Art in Coalton

For the past two years, Coalton Elementary School students have worked on murals for a public art installation. The students were guided by ArtsBank teaching artists (and MAD members) Kylie Proudfoot-Payne and Sarah Ferguson. “The art is representational of all the Coalton students since each student added an element to the final product.” states Proudfoot-Payne, “The Van Gogh imagine is from a few years ago so the 5th graders from that year are now in the 8th grade.”

The effort was truly collaborative as it involved every student in the school as well as support from several regional organizations. The Mountain Arts District received grant to the Snowshoe Foundation and additional support from the Randolph County Commission for the Artsbank effort.
