Kevin is a stone sculptor and clay artist. His processes bring forth textures, colors, shadows and grain in natural stone to create three dimensional sculptures and relief carvings. He derives his concepts from a deep understanding of stone structure and composition from a formal education in geology. The initial idea for each piece comes from the features within the selected stone, such as layering, vein work, mineral composition, or the story wrapped up in its process of formation. Bringing forth natural features to help define a sculpted form is a source of tremendous satisfaction for Kevin.
Kevin uses traditional sculpting methods, including hammers and chisels, rasps and files, and sand paper. When necessary electric drills, grinders, saws, and rotary tools with abrasive edges selected for the particular texture each will impart are also employed. Kevin’s clay work focuses on elements that can be incorporated into stone sculpture to add highlights and functionality.
Ultimately, Kevin works to provide people with a peaceful, meaningful, and lasting connection to nature in their home or yard.
