Save The Dates for the Helvetia Hoot!

MADWV member Mountain Music Trail announced that Helvetia Hoot! a mountain music, dance, craft, & culture campout will  be held May 20-May 22, 2022 at The Hütte Restaurant in Helvetia, WV. The event is sponsored by Claw and Foot Collective, Mountain Music Trail, T-Claw Calling, The Modock Rounders and The Mountain Dance Trail.

Helvetia Hoot!!, formally known as Dare to be Square, is created for aspiring and advanced callers, dancers, musicians, singers and those eager to try something new. Food-ways, craft, and mountain culture sessions are also a part of the gamut. Workshops will be held Saturday and Sunday along with dances open to the public Friday and Saturday nights and jam sessions at all hours. Come up for just a day, or experience a whole weekend worth of fun. Camping will be available Friday – Monday morning. There are two beautiful dance halls and there will be many opportunities to practice calling! Evening dances are open to the public on Saturday & Sunday nights with jam sessions at all hours.

EVENT CHECK-IN: will start at 3pm on Friday, May 20 at the Community Hall.

SCHEDULE

  • Public Nightly Dances start at 8 p.m. in the Community Hall. Admission is $10 (if you don’t have a weekend/day pass).
  • Friday, May 20 – Helvetia Star Band followed by Jesse Milnes Band
  • Saturday, May 21 – The Modock Rounders
  • Sunday, May 22 – tbd
  • Workshops all day Saturday and Sunday

VOLUNTEER

Please let us know if you want to be involved, or if you can’t come due to the cost. There are volunteer opportunities available for partial and full tuition. There are also several scholarships available to eager beginning callers!

CAMPING

Rustic camping is $10 per night per adult. No showers are available, there is a small creek to play around in. There are real restrooms within walking distance of the camping area.

MEALS

Friday May 20th
Dinner: 6 – 8pm we are foraging the possibility of an Appalachian feast since it will be hard for everyone to fit in the Hutte…
Saturday May 21st
Breakfast: We will have COFFEE & OATMEAL available
Lunch: is available for $10 from tbd local organization.
Dinner: POTLUCK 6 – 8pm (please bring a dish to pass)
Sunday May 22nd
Breakfast: We will have COFFEE & OATMEAL available
Brunch: On your own. The Hutte will be open noon to 7pm (advanced reservations highly recommended)
Snacks, beer, t-shirts, honey, maple, jam, postcards and other small items are available at the Helvetia General Store. There is no ATM, gas station or large grocery store in Helvetia.

DIRECTIONS!

Be warned that GPS to Helvetia doesn’t always work. There have been multiple hilarious adventures that involve people getting stuck in swamps. Please use these directions from the Hutte. There will be signs posted. Most cell phones will not get reception in Helvetia.
  • From Elkins: Take Route 219 to 250 South for 16 miles to Mill Creek.
    In Mill Creek Turn Right on County Route 46 (Helvetia Road)
    20 Miles to Helvetia.
  • From Buckhannon: Take Route 20 South for 12 miles to the West Virginia Wildlife Center.
    Turn Left onto County Route 11 (Alexander Helvetia Road)
    20 Miles to Helvetia.
